Laboratory abstract

Over recent years our design studio titled "Open Neighborhoodsseeks" seeks to read, interpret and rethink a specific value of “Interior and Spatial Design”, exploring the vast “open” field of design research related to the deepest and most erratic characters of inhabiting spaces. The theme for the Contest Design Studio 1 (A.A. 2019-20) was born in conjunction with the news of the 2026 Winter Olympics assignment to the city of Milan (together with Cortina). In view of this great event, students were asked to design a "table", intended as a communicative object installed in the urban space, to "inform", "invade", "educate" and "exhibit" the Winter Olympics, with the aim of creating consensus and publicity over the public. Starting from a preliminary research work, based on a space-time map of Milan related to the event (before-during-after), the 12 projects developed have taken on various connotations, always gathered by the metaphorical – and not – theme of the "table": from historical memory to sports education, from sustainability to experimental narrative experiences and community spaces.

Reverb. Reflection of light, indirect but particularly intense. Der. to “reverberate”: to reflect, to reflect back, to mock with reflection. The title, on the one hand, indicates the indirect and amplified effect that the Olimipici Games of Milano-Cortina 2026 will have on the Santa Giulia district. On the other hand, it refers to the characteristic effect of the ski slopes. It is a playground/slide characterized by double face rotating spheres, which represent the snow crystals and create always different patterns and luminous at night. The installation also houses two interactive screens for viewing the races and a simple community table.
