Laboratory abstract

The theme of the course was the design of the so-called “15-minute city”: an idea of city in which you can reach in max 15 minutes walk/bike the main facilities, services and places you need to conduct your everyday life. For this to be possible, cities and neighbourhoods need to be rethought, considering different urban planning and service strategies, in which indoor and outdoor, private and public spaces could accommodate different functions and time schedules, in hybrid fashion. The projects were based on the neighbourhood of “Nolo” - the “North of Loreto” area of Milano that now hosts “OFF CAMPUS Nolo” a local Living Lab of the Politecnico di Milano – with the aim of transforming the city in the name of proximity, in order to better live in time of Covid and beyond.

The project focuses on the creation of a space to have fun and socialize, but also for the study-work of every day, in order to adapt to different needs. Specifically, it is a set of co-working and co-studying spaces under the arches, and a relaxation area in the courtyard, which over the weekend will host artistic events and workshops, organized by the community or associations already present in support with the “Trotter” theater and the “La Officina” art school. The result of the workshops will create an open-air gallery, with related guided tours, along the wall of via Morandi, made more alive also thanks to the reopening of the secondary entrance to the Trotter.

This organization was designed for students, young creatives, smart workers and workers with more rigid routines who want to commit to the neighborhood or simply enjoy meeting moments in the area.
