Laboratory abstract

The Laboratory proposed to the students a course aimed at designing a disused space in a context of great transformation, such as that of the Bovisa district, on which processes for the promotion of a creativity and innovation district have been active for some time. The students were led to recognize an identity of the place and at the same time to define another as possible, by prefiguring future scenarios that provide for the activation of innovative functions and the consequent design of devices to equip the spaces. The projects, strongly oriented towards innovation, have been developed starting from the identification of trajectories of change in the ways of use of space and its conformation. All the elements, both fixed and mobile, tangible and intangible, which determine the quality of a space, have been conceived as a replicable system, ie designed as a set of parts and components, or as constant and variable, dimensional or aesthetic and functional, capable of power to contaminate the entire neighborhood. The design process has been proposed in successive phases that have explored different metaprojective tools: a phase of analysis and reading of the context, a research phase of best practices and design and trend inspirations, a concept and project development phase.

SuperCASA is an Interior Design project in the Milan Bovisa district. Imagined as commissioned by the Italian company Lago Design, SuperCASA project develops from a careful analysis of the neighborhood, its services and public structures, especially engaging those who habitually live it.

SuperCASA wants to be a place for meeting and cultural and inter-generational exchange. Users can live together in harmony and balance, developing common interests, work activities and moments of sharing, feeling at home. The main theme pushing the project is in fact “Home feeling”, that is, perceiving a home as an environment that is not necessarily linked to the concept of a private home. Home life is becoming a network of places and spaces and you can feel at home in more than one place. The idea developed is organizing the environment according to the spaces of the traditional house but adapting them to the number of people a “supercasa” can accommodate.
