Laboratory abstract

The Laboratory proposed to the students a course aimed at designing a disused space in a context of great transformation, such as that of the Bovisa district, on which processes for the promotion of a creativity and innovation district have been active for some time. The students were led to recognize an identity of the place and at the same time to define another as possible, by prefiguring future scenarios that provide for the activation of innovative functions and the consequent design of devices to equip the spaces. The projects, strongly oriented towards innovation, have been developed starting from the identification of trajectories of change in the ways of use of space and its conformation. All the elements, both fixed and mobile, tangible and intangible, which determine the quality of a space, have been conceived as a replicable system, ie designed as a set of parts and components, or as constant and variable, dimensional or aesthetic and functional, capable of power to contaminate the entire neighborhood. The design process has been proposed in successive phases that have explored different metaprojective tools: a phase of analysis and reading of the context, a research phase of best practices and design and trend inspirations, a concept and project development phase.

ENHANCE is a hybrid space located in Milan in Via Durando, Bovisa area. The aim of the project bringing technology and innovation into the neighborhood, two features that correspond to the values of Tesla, which we have imagined as a possible brand sponsor of the project. In Enhance, suitable spaces have been created for two different activities: a coworking area – in which to share tools and creativity – and a gym, to offer users the opportunity to do their job while enhancing their thoughts thanks to physical activity.

The theme of energy is the guideline of our design; ENHANCE is indeed a place where energy is considered as sustainable progress both at an environmental level and at a human level. The space is therefore full of vitality and energy, translated in stimulating images projected on screens, in machines for movement, in the design of the interiors, in the minds and body of the users, in the atmosphere created, in the energy drinks offered and in the exhibition hall. The result is an extremely fast and functional environment.
