Laboratory abstract

LOOK CLOSER / T. Look good. Approach it is the invitation to recognize the identity of a space and manage its genesis, defining its formal articulation, its functional and fruitive aspects, its material-technological consistency, its sensorial qualities. With this objective the teachings provided in the Laboratory accompanied the cultural experience through three educational visits. The repertoire of materials shown at the Prada Foundation in Milan was analyzed through the production of photographic images, drawings and a space project generated by the "caricature" of a selected material. Visits to Milan Design Week and Villa Panza di Biumo (Varese) inspired students to 'look beyond' by designing an intimate place, an accessible wardrobe - walk-in closet - that could guard an individual's passions, conveying their uniqueness . From here comes 'Look closer / t', title of the 2019 Laboratory, and title of the book edited in all its parts by the editorial committee formed by the students themselves, under the supervision of the teaching staff.

A book created by the students, organized through an editorial committee – composed of art directors, editors, photo editors, graphic designers, proofreaders – with the supervision of the teaching team, dreports the activity carried out in the Design Studio. The first section of the book concerns a study, reproduction and re-elaboration of materials observed at the Prada Foundation with particular attention to textures, lights and shadows, coming to investigate their attitude for creating atmospheres. The second part is dedicated to the presentation of 18 projects of work-in closets, intimate spaces, with strong identity, dedicated to users defined by the students themselves. The making of the book is also a training in ordering texts and visual elaborations of heterogeneous nature that include image construction, photography, sketching, drawing and 3D representation.
