Laboratory abstract

LOOK CLOSER / T. Look good. Approach it is the invitation to recognize the identity of a space and manage its genesis, defining its formal articulation, its functional and fruitive aspects, its material-technological consistency, its sensorial qualities. With this objective the teachings provided in the Laboratory accompanied the cultural experience through three educational visits. The repertoire of materials shown at the Prada Foundation in Milan was analyzed through the production of photographic images, drawings and a space project generated by the "caricature" of a selected material. Visits to Milan Design Week and Villa Panza di Biumo (Varese) inspired students to 'look beyond' by designing an intimate place, an accessible wardrobe - walk-in closet - that could guard an individual's passions, conveying their uniqueness . From here comes 'Look closer / t', title of the 2019 Laboratory, and title of the book edited in all its parts by the editorial committee formed by the students themselves, under the supervision of the teaching staff.

The training activity is inspired by the visit to the Prada Foundation in Milan, characterized by a composite architectural configuration enhanced by a wide repertoire of materials. The aim is the generation of a space obtained through the strengthening of the expressive-sensorial effect of a material. The students therefore designed small interior spaces with a maximum volume of 60 cubic meters, characterized by a set-up strategy (acceleration – stop, path, density – unity, division – multiplication, horizontality – verticality, height difference – excavation) and a material / character present at the Prada Foundation. The project was represented through sketches collected in morgantine, photographs and drawings paginated in an album of A3 boards, and by a dry-mounted material model, on a 1:20 scale, accompanied by assembly instructions and a time-lapse video of the construction phase.
