Laboratory abstract

The Laboratory uses design for the project, stimulating students to compare ideas through graphic reasoning in group work and experimentation with techniques and different languages of technical design and analog modeling, with particular reference to interiors and to the masterpieces of the masters of architecture and design, coordinating the contents of the exercises and the theoretical study for the course of "History of Architecture and Design".

The exercise deals with the organization of shapes and surfaces though Geometry, as main rule of order in the design. It is not about the development of a ‘real’ project in its functional, constructive and normative complexity, but only the formal component of space, applied to the imagination of a dreamlike but rational space, which must function according to the logic of rigid geometric rules that measure and mark the living space in the essential functions of collective and individual living. The group defines the individual constraints in the application of the basic rules set by the teachers (modularity, continuity, connections / openings / views) in the aggregation of 4-5 cubic cells; the individual student develops his or her room by reworking the common rules in creating a private space organized by a modular pattern, in which to perform the vital elementary functions (eating / sleeping / washing / having fun) even in an unusual way (dream / nightmare).
