Laboratory abstract

The Coliving Hospitality Lab 20/21 has investigated the new hospitality formats, with a specific focus on the most innovative hybrid spaces, which come from the contamination and overlap between functional areas and specific activities of living, traveling, and working. During the course, the students have experienced a specific didactic approach to the design of a coliving space, thanks to lectures from external experts, the important partnership with Co-Liv, and the precious support of the Co-Liv Ambassadors team: Virginia Scapinelli, Cate Maiolini, Alex Morelli, Laura Sundin, Laura Vanazzi, Samuele Biagioni.

CONTINUA_ is a co-living concept that blends the passions of artists, artisans, designers and young creatives who give life to their ideas and express their personality. CONTINUA_ is part of the reconversion of a post-industrial site and seeks to integrate into the neighborhood; the identity of the building wants to be maintained and become a starting point for continuous development. The private spaces integrate the use of neutral colors in contrast with strong chromatic details that enhance the possibilities and gestures of the individual. Public spaces have finishes and filters that recall the relationship between internal and external environments and communities. The spaces include furniture systems that can be reconfigured and moved to facilitate new uses and possibilities. In the common areas there is a creative atelier, team room, relaxation studio, kitchen box, bistro laundry and outdoor spaces that will be open to the public. The CONTINUA_ project involves the neighborhood and also becomes a local attraction not only for colivers but also for external visitors interested in organizing events and using common spaces such as the art gallery, the laundry bistro and the bookshop. CONTINUA_ thus becomes a cultural hub not only for the neighborhood, but for the city itself. CONTINUA_ believes that coliving areas must offer different types of space so that within them a balance can be achieved between private, shared and public areas. Within the co-living spaces it is therefore possible to reach a compromise to have one’s own private space without excluding the social aspects of the community. With a strong mix of private, collective, public and external spaces, this project takes into consideration all the elements of coexistence.
