Laboratory abstract

The "Hospitality for Temporary Living" laboratory aims to guide students towards an understanding of the dynamics that invest spaces for hospitality, and invites them to construct a design process using metaproject research tools to imagine a concept design in one of three proposed contexts: the Einstein residence and the Galilei residence of the Milan Polytechnic and the building in Via Noe 24, Milan.

“Libra” is a project born as a submark of the historic Italian design company, Seletti. The base concept is contrast: each element was conceived to create disturbance and create a thought on the meaning of things; the main elements generating contrasts can be identified in the trends of the trash and digital detox which, mediated through the correct use of technology, or smart tech, design unusual spaces with a strong impact on the user. The close connection with Seletti has contributed to giving the project that lively and perturbing soul that it’s spread out in each environment: from the bright rooms of the residence to the dormitories, sometimes minimalist, of the hostel, which despite the strong detox character of the structure, fit inspired patterns to the successful collaboration between Seletti and Toiletpaper. The key to the whole concept is balance, or rather the juxtaposition of a strong and contradictory world like trash trend with the most intimate reality of detox. Project site is the university residence of the Politecnico di Milano, Einstein.
