Laboratory abstract

The Laboratory aims to instruct a path through which to lead the student to the acquisition of specific knowledge for the exercise of design, as well as for the learning and experimentation of tools and techniques for reading, interpretation and conception of specific spaces of use. This path refers to places related to hospitality design in relation to a sequence of different "points of view" from which to look at the genesis and evolution of some types of sedimented as well as the emergence of innovative types. The student will initially be started to understand the dynamics that invest the spaces for hospitality (from historical evolution to typological analysis; from the study of current trends to the search for paradigmatic case studies) to then arrive at the construction of a " concept "of the project in a context attributed by the teacher. The workshop activity is integrated into the communications by a series of contributions from external guests on the issues related to metadesign.

The name of the hostel is Rod Rav, which in swedish means Nest of the Red Fox. In fact, the hostel aims at presenting itself to customers first and foremost as a place where warmth and familiarity can be perceived, just like a nest, a home where a refuge can be found. Furthermore, it is the Red Fox, the symbol of the brand Fjallraven, client for this project, to guide the user in a treasure hunt leaving clues and letters throughout the structure, in order to encourage the user to complete specific experiences within the city of Milan, thus linking the permanence in the hostel to the lifestyle of the city. Ultimately, the interior design and furniture also try to stimulate the five senses, through different materials and textures specifically chosen to evoke sensations experiences in the midst of nature. The journey in the city is therefore seen as a path to follow, represented by a red thread that connects all the different stages, all aimed at awakening the sense of adventure that characterizes the brand, and that above all makes the children in us come back, making us feel at home.
