The need to promote an attractive image of a city comes from the trend of experiential travel that put first the value of experiences and place attachment because they positively impact the “customer” loyalty. The concept of place attachment is usually related to the residents. From this the question: how do visitors develop place attachment? The research focuses on the concept of place attachment, defined as “emotional connectedness people have with a particular area” and on which kind of psychological and environmental factors favor its development. The meanings people attribute to a place and the memories of other experiences it stimulates them are the main factors to consider. However, the role of spatial knowledge should not be overlooked as a means of developing “memorable” experiences and, consequently, place attachment. The urban landscape’s authentic experience could be part of The Ocean Race events to promote the host cities. The aim is not only to increase “customer loyalty” towards the tourist destination but also to indirectly stimulate the visitor to become a “temporary citizen” and take care of a place to which he feels particularly attached.
