Laboratory abstract

The Laboratory, in order to provide the foundations for the design of an environment, focuses on the theme of minimal living. Stimulated to explore alternative solutions that meet the needs of minimal contemporary living, students developed a project based on a real context. To define their own design language, they were invited to choose between the strategies of the best tradition of interior design, illustrated in the book "From space is born space".

The project aims at a specific audience: dancers, who are often forced to constantly move in search of new job opportunities or chances to study and specialize. The space intends to offer them a shelter and a place where they can rehearse and spread their work by creating a contact with the local community. Ron Arad, as our design guide, has inspired us with his scenic works in the creation of modular and transformable elements, ideal for defining the reduced space according to different needs at different times during the day. Thus, each element has a double function: one linked to the domestic environment and one linked to the dance sphere, to make the most of the space. Even the two sides of the designer, the whimsical and the neutral, are reflected in the space: the first, with bright colors, in the areas / elements dedicated to rehearsals and / or performance, while the second, with more neutral tones, is for domestic purposes.
