Laboratory abstract

Landscapes of extraction are holograms of the controversial processes of planetary urbanization, representing its contradictions and its social, spatial, economic, and ecological caesuras. They define new de-localizing maps, generating displacements in the relationship between local and global issues; they imply a rethinking of the relationship between consumption, production, and resources; they determine large-scale metabolic processes to the point of generating new geographies and new representations of the world.

The aim of the project is to build a self-sufficient society that interacts with the evolution of it in terms of technology and space. By focusing the attention on the territorial analysis aimed at the present, new data have emerged and are used for the development of a new type of city. Morphology of the territory, environmental conditions and social aspects are closely linked, the depression of the ground seems to go conceptually hand in hand with the social unease of the population. Due to the subsidence of the land, the work of the mine and the infrastructure of the city, a shift in the territory is put in place, which reflects, at the same time, an ideal transformation of the ways of life of individuals. The result is a city that tends to isolate itself from the outside and in which each unit tries to follow the same concept. The vision for a future urbanization is linked to all the aspects that coexist in the city to find an EQUILIBRIUM.
