Laboratory abstract

The typology, layout and organization of the SUPERMARKET present an extraordinary uniformity to the eyes of common people. A closer look reveals that there is, on the contrary, a variety of formats with substantial differences, especially in terms of strategy and service. Today, even the most traditional formats are opening up to significant changes that affect the entire retail sector and urge new studies of the effects they had and that they are having on the evolution of this type of stores. The course proposes a "design oriented" reading of these trends in relation to a highly competitive sector that is facing the pressure of new shopping options and greater sensitivity for the environment and health (to name a few: reduction of plastics in the packaging, transparency and traceability of food production, rising of bio and eco-sustainability products).

HEDO is inspired by the hedonistic sustainability represented by the danish architect Bjarke Ingels, a mentality that sees sustainability as an opportunity and not a downgrading of your lifestyle. Our project stems from the will of letting the client have a 360° experience, addressing the consumer to a 100% conscious purchase and assisting in the discovery of our products’ manufacturing processes. The experience we want to create has the goal of influencing our clients’ habits, by raising awareness on environmental issues, boosting km 0 cultivations and increasing the production of sustainable energy. Here’s why the store will only offer monobrand products, selected based on their environmental impact, guaranteeing the specific selling of 100% biological seasonal goods. HEDO aims to be the neighborhood’s landmark on both energetic point of view, offering itself as energy generator and distributor, and on a social and educational point of view. Changing our habits we can change our future.
