Laboratory abstract

In the middle of four public squares in Tokyo, the Vatican City, Mexico City and Copenhagen, students are asked to design "Radure d'Interni" by subtraction from a green volume. These explore the threshold between the outside and the inside, relating the activation of urban functional spaces to a specific cultural context, within an artificial wilderness.

In the middle of St. Peter’s Square, the center of Christianity, a bold project is developed in order to get out sex from its most moralized conception. The circular base develops in two concentric layers of vegetation, a thinner one consisting of figs and a thicker one consisting of shrubs. A series of increasingly erotic statues introduce guests to the Carousel: a meeting place where users can show off or choose their partner or partners. With the purpose of having sex, they will make their way through the thick vegetation to find one of the ten alcoves. These are planned in five variants with materials and supports designed ad hoc to help different positions and sensations; the alcoves recall some places of classic sexual fantasies: the Spa, the Beach, the Barn, the Gym and the Boat. Once the mating is over, a hidden exit is provided by a slide, positioned near each alcove. This leads to a dark and narrow underground tunnel, which leads outside Hotspot, in the square.
