Laboratory abstract

Among the many practices dedicated to body care, physical exercise is an indispensable activity not only for health but also as a source of psychological well-being. The laboratory has deepened the design of a structure dedicated to indoor and outdoor sports in relation to new trends, technologies and materials, putting the body and mind at the center of the project. The design exercise was set in the Campus of the Politecnico di milano and supported by the technical and administrative board of the Faculty in relation to the future development programs of the University.

MotiClub is a multi-purpose space where Politecnico students can both study, meet and do different physical activities. To encourage even the laziest people to be more sporty our design concept is inspired by the behavioral mechanism of reward (no pain – no gain), a natural hedonistic circuit that stimulates, through the promise of a “reward”, to face the physical effort with greater motivation: the more guests do their best and reach good results the more they are rewarded with prizes. Prizes are both material – like gadgets or monthly bonus – or special – like free access to chilling zones. The upper floor, designed as an immersive gym, is dedicated to “pain”, while the lower floors are intended for rewarding activities (bar-shop, relaxation area, sauna). To create a space with a balanced design most of the Moticlub furniture are modular and the essential module is an orange 25×25 cm box: by adding and piling many boxes together we generate many different and unique design objects.
