Laboratory abstract

In the post-pandemic phase, cities need to be imagined as an open and permeable entity: “It is all about making more permeable the space that connects the interior and exterior, more horizontal, to build it in more flexible ways”. This is the direction that spaces have to follow, creating proximity places where we live, work, eat together, spend free time and enjoy cultural events: hybrid and changeable areas that host different functions and offer services simultaneously. The design lab focused on the spaces at the ground in the urban context, on the transformation these places are going through and on the relationship between the inside and the outside. On one side, shop windows, sidewalks and parking areas were considered as pursuance of interiors. On the other side, students were asked to imagine interiors as much hybrid as they could, enhancing their value of being versatile and meaningful if well studied designed. Three bars and restaurants, in three different districts of Milan, were selected; students focused on them starting from the analysis of their users, their location in the cityscape and the pre-existing interior architecture. The aim was to explore new ways of hybridization these places could host.

Post it are small piece of coloured paper with a readherable strip of glue on their back, they’re used for temporarily notes. We decided to reuse this word in the name of our restaurant “Post-eat” because its principal features are quick notes, that are connected with the theme of catering industry. Focal point of our project is the bulletin board: it’s a surface intended for the posting of public messages, notices and infos. It pervades the interior of our restaurant and promotes contacts of designers, manufacturing business in the neighborhood of Bovisa and workshop in collaboration with the labs of Politecnico university, which is near our place. In a spirit of cohesion with the surrounding area and industrial enterprises, we thought about a scheme of colours that can connect the interior and the outside and about a place with a flexible configuration and soft lines that can accompany the creativity of the costumers, who become the absolute protagonist of the configuration of our restaurant, that is in a continuous transformation.
